Ploughman’s Rest is one of the longest established Bed & Breakfasts in the area. When Malcolm & Peggy Saunders, Karoo Farmers retired to the Tsitsikamma it seemed appropriate to name the establishment “The Ploughman’s Rest” the old English word for farmer.

It is only when one gets to the Ploughman’s Rest with its beautiful evergreen garden and abundant birdlife that you feel that you have left the city life behind.

We offer quality B&B and Self-Catering accommodation to all travelers passing through. Situated in Storms River Village in the Tsitsikamma region of the Eastern Cape, South Africa, our relaxed farm-style atmosphere is ideal for families with children wanting a quiet break from the hustle of the city life.

Accommodation at the Ploughman’s Rest offers comfortable Bed and Breakfast Rooms and Self-Catering Units near to the Plaatbos Nature Reserve. The accommodation consists of seven B&B bedrooms en-suite and 3 Self-Catering units, all with views of the evergreen garden. A tranquil atmosphere surrounds you in a spacious garden with lovely peaceful corners and benches engulfed by blossoming azalea bushes and indigenous forest trees.

Each room has a generous hospitality tray and fresh milk is available on request. The rooms have private entrances allowing you the freedom to come and go as you please.

Many guests comment on how comfortable our beds are and enjoy our generous breakfasts made with local produce wherever possible. Our Local butcher’s award winning Sausages are a particular favourite (he also has Braai-packs available).

Another favourite is Peggy and Anje’s Home-made muffins and preserves.

With a spectacular garden Ploughman’s Rest B&B is a beautiful, tranquil place of rest, were all Guest rooms have views of the ever-green garden.

The main house contains various family rooms. The interior speaks of days gone by with a touch of modern convenience. These rooms invite the sunlight and garden into the interior.

Satellite TV lounge provides entertainment for the children while the parents relax with a glass of wine next to the cozy fireplace that is the main focal point of this room during winter. Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining area of this room overlooking the garden.

These Self-Catering Units are set in a lovely garden setting adjacent to the B&B and are surrounded by the scenic green belt of the Tsitsikamma.
Stroll through the evergreen gardens following the stream or relax in the sun and be enchanted by the abundant birdlife. The Bird watching here is amazing; there are many rare species here, such as the Knysna loerie, Wood-hoopoe, King Fisher, Owls, Sunbirds that is common to our area and the ultimate the Narina Trogon, can be seen.
